What is Colonic Hydrotherapy?

Colonic Hydrotherapy, also known as a colonic irrigation, is a gentle internal bath of the large intestine. Filtered, temperature-controlled water is introduced into the colon, which helps to soften and loosen compacted faecal matter, gas, and mucus, allowing them to be naturally expelled.

Is it painful?

Most clients do not find the procedure painful. You may experience some mild cramping or a feeling of fullness as the water enters and exits your colon, similar to a bowel movement. Our therapists are trained to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

How long does a session take?

A typical colonic hydrotherapy session lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Please allow extra time for your initial consultation.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed varies depending on individual health goals and the current state of your colon. Some people feel great after just one session, while others may benefit from a series of treatments. Your therapist will discuss a personalised plan with you during your consultation.

Is it safe?

Yes, when performed by a qualified and experienced therapist using sterile, single-use equipment, colonic hydrotherapy is a very safe procedure. We adhere to strict hygiene and safety protocols at The Colonic Centre.

Will it wash away good bacteria?

While some beneficial bacteria may be flushed out during the process, the environment created by a cleaner colon is actually more conducive to the proliferation of healthy bacteria. Many people choose to take probiotics after their colonic to help replenish beneficial flora.

What should I do to prepare for a session?

We recommend avoiding heavy meals, gas-forming foods, and alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Staying well-hydrated is also beneficial. Specific pre-treatment instructions will be provided upon booking.
